James "The Amazing" Randi is finally going to cancel his "Million Dollar Challenge," after years of offering it to any person who can, under labaratory conditions, demonstrate their "paranormal" powers.

I know...

Nancy, in the Rollingwood office, had some magazine featuring all kinds of hocus-pocus herbal/native/crystals dipshit remedies for every kind of ailment. Each advertisement talked about the wonderful stuff that that particular product would do. I tried talking to her about the nature of scientific studies, double blind experiments, statistical significance, and so forth, but she preferred anecdotes.

"It's 'alternative medicine' mostly because it doesn't work," I said. "If it worked, it would just be 'medicine.' Doctors would incorporate it into their list of treatments for the ailment..."

It all did no good.

As a skeptic since childhood, I've long admired Randi and the work he does in this area. I doubt that anyone will put up or shut up, though.

I agree. But offering the prize money was always a good propaganda tool for a good cause, I think.
