As much as I would love to say it was the online pondok gang reunion, as most of you can guess, it did not happen. In fact, it's a family reunion. Though, an unplanned one.
It started out with the news, months ago, that one of our cousins were getting married, and fast forward to today, 90% of the family member showed up. When I say family members, I meant my mum's siblings and their kids. I haven't seen them in awhile, and I must say, somethings just make you wish you were a kid again.
The morning of today, it was havoc as a few of my cousins from johor stayed over and my mum's sister (and family) from Kedah came to stay for the next two nights, as the number of the bathroom could not compensate for the additional occupants (which now total up to almost 20 ppl in the house). We can hear my aunts screaming for their respective kids to hurry up and it kinda reminded me and my sister of Eid that we used to have years ago in Ipoh.
The wedding itself was fun, as we let the aunts do the job, we cousins mostly sit back and catch up, as well as re-memorising the names of the kids of cousins that was already married. A lot of photoshoots, i can tell you that much. The whole family alone bring at least half a dozen camera, and that didn't count the normal 'point-and-click' camera yet. One aunt make a remark about it's easy now that we have cousins that have grew up, because now they can babysit the younger ones.
Too bad we couldn't see the more 'rare' cousins that most of us lost contact with. And after the wedding ended, I thought that was it. OH, was i wrong. The party continue at my house. Apparently, todays is also one of my uncle's birthday; the 5 child, my mum's older brother. So, they threw a bbq party for him, without letting him know that it was actually for him. He thought it was just a get-together party for the family, not for him. Well, it was 50-50. It's rare to get most of the siblings together, so my mum just took the chance.
We were having loud friendly arguments and debate over small stuff that might or might now happened in the past.
I heard cousins screaming over the crowd how that particular story (mostly humiliating ones) were not true.
I saw the younger cousins getting themselves reacquainted (and attached themselves) with the older ones.
I heard the loud, sincere laughter of the said younger ones as the older ones tried their best to entertain them.
I recalled myself screaming how it's not fair that I kept losing every single 'Crazy' Uno card game and hitting my cousins' husband for playfully teasing me about my losing streak.
The food, laughter, havoc and screaming (of kids) was something i wish could happen again in the near future. I really love my cousins because like the pondok gang, they really accept me for who I am, and would always have something to talk about though we haven't seen each other in along time.
And I realised that this family do stick thru thick and thin. And hope this doesn't end at my generation.
Oh, before you think it's already over, think again. Tomorrow we're going to the Zoo and after that, the older cousins (that have yet to marry) will be going to go bowling.
I didn't know that my mid-term break will be turn into a family reunion, and I'm glad that i Skipped PD and langkawi for this.
