I've met 3 people after getting their essays back and they've all been unhappy. Janet Garton gave me a crappy mark and then over the course of our ten-minute appointment revealed that she hadn't read as much on Charlotte Perkins-Gilman as I had, didn't understand how I was summing up each novel (despite the fact that I was summing it up using the criteria in the bloody essay title) and had no idea what revealed religion was. And don't get me started on the "Don Quicks-oat" pronounciation of 'Don Quixote'...
Also, she sat sideways on throughout the appointment, only facing me when she'd decided to momentarily put a nice gloss on things.
Take it to the board with the end of year doo-dad - I'm going to. Is it possible for the whole class/unit to appeal? She's been absolutely coasting this unit in terms of teaching (I get more from Wiki than her lectures) and yet she is suddenly holding us to insanely high standards.
I wrote a lengthy reply to you, then the internet made it go away... It was just a big moan anyway... To sum up, on my actual paper she's written 'you make some good points, well supported by critical reading' so why such a low mark?!
And my presentation mark is even smaller, but that's understandable I guess, as I couldn't print out the handout... But it adds to the misery... ;)
Anyway, I'm relying on your wisdom, as you actually do things while I mope! :)
I've emailed my person in the student advice centre - if this many people are unhappy with their work, surely we can collectively demand a re-mark. Watch this space - I've got my agitated hat on ;)
