Name 10 bands/artists you are really into:

1. a-ha/Morten Harket solo
2. Keane
3. The Cure
4. Concrete Blonde
5. Taxi Girl/Daniel Darc solo
6. Etienne Daho
7. Bel Canto/Anneli Drecker solo
8. Savage Garden/Darren Hayes solo
9. Kate Bush
10. Bjork

Now answer the questions according to the numbers.
What was the first song you ever heard by 6?: (Etienne Daho) "Le Grand Sommeil" on the Made in France compilation of 80s new wave from France.

What is your favorite album of 8?: I prefer their demos which were slightly less pop.

What is your favorite lyric that 5 has sung?:

I love most of Daniel Darc's lyrics, they're dark against a deceptively light background in the case of Taxi Girl...my favorite taxi girl lyrics come from "Quelqu'un comme toi":
"La vie approche l'enfer est a nous
Va jusqu'a moi l'enfer est a nous
N'oublie jamais l'enfer est a nous..."
(Transl. Life is inviting, hell is ours
Come and join me, hell belongs to us
Never forget hell belongs to us....)
All sung in a very upbeat manner...can't beat depressing and twisted in a pop song.

How many times have you seen 4 live?

I have seen Concrete Blonde twice now and it's never enough. Johnette's voice gives me the chills.

What is your favorite songs of 7?:

"White Out Conditions", "Baltic Icebreaker", "Shimmering Warm and Bright", "Unicorn" Anneli Drecker's "My Emily", "Tundra", and "Stop This"...god the list could just go on and on all day...I love Anneli.

What is a good memory you have connected to the music of 10?:

Seeing Bjork with the Sugarcubes on MTV and realising that a really strange, not conventionally beautiful
woman with a total lack of inhibitions could make it to the top and suddenly my confidence in myself grew tremendously. And I remember staying up all night without my mother's permission to watch the Sugarcubes on Arsenio Hall...lol.

What is your favorite lyric that 2 has sung?:
(Keane) "I walked across an empty land, I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet, sat by the river and it made me complete" and "I came across a fallen tree, I felt the branches of it looking at me. Is this the place we used to love? Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?" from "Somewhere Only We Know". Reminds me of how I feel when I'm hiking, which is glorious.

What is your favorite song by 9?: That's tough. "The Man With the Child in His Eyes" is a favorite, as well as the entire album "The Dreaming"...also love "You're the Only One I Want", "Never Be Mine", and "This Woman's Work"

How did you get into 3?:
I heard the Cure on a local Modern Rock station. The first song I heard was "Just Like Heaven". I remember not knowing who it was and imagining that the singer would be kinda nerdy looking with blonde hair and glasses. I did not make the connection that the man I saw in a poster in a record store that I thought was really fucking Edward Scissorhands-hot was the singer....hehe.

What was the first song you heard by 1?: "Take On Me"....isn't that the first song anyone heard from them?

What is your favorite song by 4?: "Long Time Ago" and "Carry Me Away" (Concrete Blonde)

How many times have you seen 9 live?: Kate Bush doesn't play live anymore....alas.

What is a good memory you have concerning 1?:
a-ha's album "Scoundrel Days" inspired me to start writing one of the books I'm writing...I don't know how, considering it has nothing to do with it, but I was listening to it while driving in my car and I started having visions of the entire plot...
And I remember singing Morten Harket's "Tilbaket Til Livet" in the middle of a forest and feeling really happy...

Is there a song of 8 that makes you sad?:

"You Can Still Be Free" and Darren Hayes' "Darkness"

What is your favorite album of 5?:
Taxi Girl only had two official albums, but a few unofficial singles compilations (they tended to release singles and not full albums). My favorite "album" from Taxi Girl is "Suite et Fin?" It has some really stunning songs spanning their whole career. For Daniel Darc, my absolute favorite is "Creve Couer".

What is your favorite lyric that 3 has sung?:
"i lift my lips from kissing you to kiss the sky cloud soft and blue
and slow the sun melts down into your golden words for me

i lift my hands from touching you to touch the wind that whispers through
this twilight garden turns into a world where dreams are real

no-one will ever take your place, i am lost in you
no-one will ever take your place, so in love with you

i lift my eyes from watching you, to watch the star rise shine onto
your dreaming face and dreaming smile
you're dreaming worlds for me" -The Cure "This Twilight Garden"

What is your favorite song of 10?: "It's Not Up to You"

How many times have you seen 6 live?:
I've never seen Etienne Daho live, but I almost flew to France to see the last tour (And see Daniel Darc as they were touring simultaneously)...before my car was stolen...and then I found myself with no cash.

What is your favorite album of 2?: They only have one, "Hopes and Fears"

What is a great memory you have considering 9?:

Lying in bed with my former roommates Sophie and Chuck and crying and singing along with "This Woman's Work"...

What is your favorite lyric that 8 has sung?:
"I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy...
I believe the struggle for financial freedom isn't fair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires...
I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists,
I believe in love surviving death until eternity..."
-completely out of order lyrics from Savage Garden "Affirmation"
