Here's the explanation on the BBC. Apparently they're Greek Orthodox and Armenian priests fighting over who cleans the church before their idiosyncratic Christmas Day on 7th January. They should come round to my flat, there's cleaning enough to be done here to keep all of them happy! :-D

I guess it's kind of a festive ritual for them - the local police chief is quoted on the BBC as saying it "occurs every year". Some of them do look rather like they came kitted out for a barney, and there were certainly a lot of camera phones at the ready!
