Vaccinations, and a little ranting about doctors in general

Feb 20, 2008 11:08

Sammy needs two shots before he can go back to school. We've known about this for a few weeks and we'd planned to take him last week to the doctor, but the way Jacob got so sick for so long really threw us, and we completely forgot. Only last night when Nana and I were discussing it did we remember that oops, today is Vaccination Inclusion Day at ( Read more... )

My kids quit having well child visits at about three and we've never looked back. We tend to be a little hippie though - I don't use antibiotics etc. and our kids are super-healthy. They also haven't been prodded and labeled, something I feel is completely unnecessary.

Unless there is something wrong - like whooping cough - we try to handle it ourselves unless we feel we need extra help.

I couldn't believe when I read that docs are now including assessing the mothers (not the fathers!) mental health as part of the well-child visit and conducting literacy exams. That's not exactly their job if you ask me.

Grrr.

I agree with your rant. Sorry it's so frustrating.

How are you doing? Are you legally unencumbered now?

Okay, so I know this wasn't exacly the POINT of your post, but you can't just casually mention something like that and expect me not to TOTALLY FREAK OUT. Who died?!!! And why didn't anyone CALL me? I know I'm the one who has the international phone cards, and it's generally assumed that I will do ALL the calling, but this could be a legitimate exception, right? Please write back (or call!) and explain. You were talking about one of OUR uncles?

Breathe. I was talking about *Nana and my* distractions over the last few weeks. My car, my kidlet. Nana's uncle Tony. No real reason to call and tell you, but it has had a huge impact on our household the last two or three weeks. Sorry for causing alarm.

alas, you most DEFINITELY should've used the ritualistic goat-slaughter line. That would've been PRICELESS, even over the phone!

I have much the same attitude toward doctors as you, although in my case it stems from a doctor father. When "doctor" means "guy sucking down coffee at the breakfast table with killer morning-breath", the awe-factor is somehow lacking ( ... )
