I thought I was a very patient person, until I became a parent. Parenthood has provided plenty of opportunities to further develope that attribute. Choosing to be patient is a choice, with much nicer consequences than some of the alternatives.
And reading to children (at bedtime) is a great family tradition. I think all of our children are avid readers, and love books, and I like to think all those bedtime stories and trips to the library helped contribute to that.
