Yeah, the meme of "wife/girlfriend/female significant other as annoying/"ball and chain" remover of freedom/emcumbrance" has long been a nuisance to me. For a while I refused to call myself Aaron's girlfriend, and I was kind of relieved when somehow the term "fish" got introduced as a descriptor.
