video from miniDV to digital format

Does anyone know how to transfer video from miniDV to digital format?
Digital camera has a firewire connection and my mac has it as well?
What programs do I need on the mac?
Update: worked like magic, firewire cable and iMovie was all that was needed.

i-movie that comes with a mac should do it for your mac. There should be a video capture option on it.
