not that this is necessarily the case, or even logical, but its a thought.
without adaptation to said procedures, perhaps we would see other effects as well. like in heart surgery - patients who undergo mitral valve replacement must take blood thinners for the rest of their lives whereas those who simply have them repaired do not.
this could simply be a matter of quality control, but you never know how a body will react to a sudden change, for better or worse.
although you could argue the chances of something going wrong may go up with each procedure performed and could be reduced by simplifying to one procedure in a replacement.
but i'm not sure what we are talking about anyway.
