What Time Did the Ball Drop?
727w; pg-13
Reita/Uruha

A.) 4am. Uruha's already thrown a glass at the wall only to figure out that he needed that. So its with great conviction that he doesn't subject his phone to the same fate.

He needs it.

Because Reita's going to call him back. No matter how late his "outings" run, he always calls when Uruha does.

Reita's going to call back and ask why he has 58 missed calls (even though Uruha never counted how many times he pressed redial), he'll say that Uruha should have been more understanding and Uruha will snap. He'll tell Reita not to bother anymore. He'll tell him that his bags are already packed, that he had plenty of time to do it while waiting for him.

He takes another break from pacing and checks the signal on his phone, not noticing he's stepped too close to the wall and his feet are leaving drops of blood on the carpet. Reita's going to call back, right?

He needs him.

B.) 9pm. "Uruha." Silence. "Kouyou?" Silence. "Babe, come on don't do this"

Uruha tries to sound as mad as he feels but his voice shakes and it comes out as a whimper. "You promised, Reita."

"It's inspiring how you guys keep your thing alive." Ruki stamps out his cigarette and leans back against the wall like he's talking about the weather and not his best friends' love life. "Twelve years is a long time, most people would fall into that pattern of taking each other for granted, forget birthdays, anniversaries. I don't know how you do it."

Uruha laughs and hopes Ruki doesn't notice how his face paled at his words (Reita said he wasn't going to forget next year, he said he was going to make it special), "We don't do anything though, maybe we're just lucky."

He hears a sigh and he knows Reita is doing that thing where he closes his eyes really tight and pinches the bridge of his nose. He hates that he knows, that he can always tell what he's doing without having to see him.

"Uruha, I can't get out of it, this is a big promotion we're up for. Really big."

"You. Promised. A year ago when you forgot the first time? We're not going to have many more anniversaries for you to forget if-"

"I didn't forget! Something just came up! Christ Uruha." He hears mumbled voices in the background. "Shit. I have to go. I swear I'm just going to be a little late."

Uruha doesn't really know how to react.

C.) 2am. He's looking for a screwdriver to get the cork out of his second bottle of wine when he finds the card hidden in the toolbox. Even in his hazy anger he can appreciate the reasoning behind placing it in there, its not like he'd touch the toolbox unless...well, he got a cork stuck in his bottle of wine.

He folds himself onto the floor, waits for a minute, downs another glass, and then rips into the card. Inside there's a coupon for "24 hours with the one and only Reita" that he almost shreds to pieces but instead throws into the air, watching dazedly as it doesn't go far and floats to the floor in front of him.

The card is one of those expensive ones with the glitter and plastic coverings, the corner of Uruha's mouth twitches despite himself. Inside there are two sheets of paper on which Reita waxed poetic about his smile. Though "so fucking awesome it kicks me in the balls everytime I see it" isn't the most flowery of prose.

And he's laughing so hard he doesn't even realize when the laughter turns into sobs because this is why. This is exactly why.

Aoi made gagging noises when he caught them playing footsie under the table at the band meeting. "You two are disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. You do realize what you're doing is basically incest, right?"

"Who is the disgusting one here? You're the one-" Reita couldn't finish his protest because Aoi kept barreling on.

"Uruha. When you get tired of fucking your brother call me."

Kai threw his notebook onto the table and left the room.

D.) None of the above.

It's 4:30am when Reita finally calls back.

"Takashima?" An unfamiliar voice crackles over the earpiece.

"Y-yes, this is he..."

"There's been an accident."

A/N: I'm sorry. A friend gave me so many Ureita feels last week and this was the only thing I could do to make them go away. ):
