Fairy-like

Jonghyun/Taemin

Taemin met Jonghyun when he was 10. He had bright cerulean wings that would reflect the sun like a grin and brush against Taemin's fingers like a kiss. Jonghyun claimed he was a garden fairy, often laying on his stomach in a morning glory or throwing small pebbles at Taemin when he came out to water his mother's plants.

Taemin didn't think Jonghyun was very fairy-like but he was still a fairy, and fairies were interesting to say the least. He discovered him while pulling a weed Jonghyun had been napping under. Enraged, Jonghyun latched onto Taemin's ankle and bit down as hard as he could. Taemin thought it was a mosquito, but when he slipped his hand down to swat the annoyance away Jonghyun just moved to biting his finger.

Taemin didn't think Jonghyun was fairy-like at all.

When Taemin was 11 he brought Jonghyun a peace offering. They'd been reluctantly sharing his mother's garden for almost a year and Taemin was quite tired of trying to study in the sunshine while getting water drop bombs kicked into his ears. The strawberry was almost as wide as Jonghyun and he had to hug it with both arms as he flew it up to his flower, but he didn't bother Taemin with malicious intent any longer after that. Instead he bothered him with his endless curiosity.

Time outside during Taemin's early teens was spent with Jonghyun on his shoulder, tugging on his ear when Taemin didn't answer his questions fast enough. At first, Jonghyun asked about things Taemin assumed fairies would ask about, what it was like to be big, or human. Later though, he asked Taemin for songs, songs he would sing to Taemin when he saw his light on in the middle of the night. He would ask about Taemins mom and left her rings made out of grass as a thank you for his home. He asked about Taemin's hands and the callous created from taking notes in school ("why take notes if they hurt your hands?" He'd say, flapping his wings and dragging Taemin by his thumb.)

Taemin brought Minho to the garden when he was 16 and flush faced with infatuation. Minho found him endearing, a boy who smiled at bubbles and still believed in fairies. Taemin looked for an hour, pretending it was for a special trinket before giving up and sending Minho home. That night as Minho prepared for bed he found his legs covered in mosquito bites. Taemin stayed up until the sun crept into the sky, light bulb on and arms on his windowsill, waiting. Jonghyun never showed.

On Taemin's 18th birthday he walked through the garden one last time, crawling through the flower beds and checking under Jonghyun's favorite morning glories. Taemin didn't cry as the car pulled out of the driveway, jostling him against his belongings piled to the ceiling. Jonghyun hadn't been anything to him, not a friend, not a confidant, not a bright blue streak in his peripheral vision. He was just a fairy, and fairies weren't real.

("I was never very fairy-like anyway." Jonghyun will say when Taemin asks him why he gave up his wings, leaning into Jonghyun's fingers stroking his hair.

Taemin will turn his head and nip under Jonghyun's chin, sliding his hands under the thin cerulean shirt he's wearing. "True, you were more like a mosquito.")

A/N:I can't seem to stop with the mindless fluff lol )':
I'm not sure where this came from or what it even is. I also have no beta to speak of, so if you see any jarring weirdness or mistakes please let me know :3
