and the regularity of incest jokes/desires/etc. becomes a metaphor/literalization for the inability of the Bluth family to look outside their walls to the broader world which is so regularly shaken/destroyed by their actions. At the same time, love for family is important because who else could love these people but other narcissists or, er, the mentally challenged? (OR AUDIENCE MEMBERS) So I guess the real goal of the first three years of the series is for Michael to find a way to raise his son to be someone who actually could have a fulfilling life, which means finding a way for him to get love and support from his family without ultimately being so overwhelmed by them that he gets trapped in the never-ending web of family selfishness. Because Michael is mostly unaware of his own narcissism, he fails to see how he smothers his son, he fails to notice that there is a big romantic/sexual component to his son's love for his cousin, he tries hard to crush his son's first relationship with someone outside the family because Michael

Agreed on Tobias matters. For me, though, what was missing was self-awareness / a substantial sign that he would ~learn and grow~ in future? (e.g. Michael getting bitch-slapped by George Michael)
I LIKE @ your analysis of George Sr. vs. Oscar. No idea what Transparent is, though.
JUSTICE FOR BUSTER!!1!!1!!
And I'm with you on murderer Michael (probably) being a mislead. Michael is a dick, but not sure he's that wild, lmao.
I kind of think that incest really is the key to the whole series, haha, and I'm not joking
AN EXCELLENT CONCLUSION IMO.

I'm so late to this party but aaaaaaaaaahhhhhh YAY YOU FINISHED :DDD
The extent to which this show is committed to incestuousness makes my heart SING.
THIS!!! Omggg George Michael/Maeby and Michael/Lindsay!
I was warned about season 4 being disappointing, and ultimately I found it a mixed bag.
I was wondering what your reaction would be but didn't want to say anything on your last post. I was so disappointed by S4, mostly because of the lack of ensemble, as you mentioned, and also because I couldn't stand the particular way Michael's douchebaggery played out in his falling out with George Michael, because I love the relative healthiness of that relationship in the first three seasons so much (also b/c I identify with Michael a lot. All of the characters I identify with the most on television are male and end up being assholes, and Michael was sort of the exception until S4. IT'S A PROBLEM).
In any case, bring on season 5, whenever the hell that'll be.My heart hurts just thinking that it might never happen. I NEED IT! I NEED TO

LOL, I KNOW THIS PAIN WELL. And I totally get not enjoying Michael's arc--it's not enjoyable--but it is well-written IMO? He did show plenty of flaws in S1-3 that ultimately escalated in what was a believable way for me. Overall I enjoyed S4 more than you because the elements I didn't enjoy were evened out by others I really did.
Anyway, I do have faith in Michael's future redemptive final act and reconciliation with George Michael! I WILL BELIEVE! NEVER GIVE UP HOPE. NEVER SURRENDER.
I have not seen Veep, but smh @ your tempting methods when I have a laundry list of other shows to watch.
Okay, so I am trying to return to livejournal because I miss this place. A decision made five minutes ago. Which means I am horribly late to this post. So I'm going to just read other posts.
