lol gossip girl. Like I think this show has actually ruined me and fandom in a way that nothing before ever has?? Which is the stupidest thing because it was never a secret that the show was the WORST with awful writing and so WHAT WAS I EXPECTING. WHAT WAS I EXPECTING. Maybe I am just too naive for this world because I honestly thought, for a few dumb months of my life, the story was maybe about Blair finding the strength to move on from her victimizer. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO WRONG IN MY LIFE and tbh when I let myself think about the full ramifications of what the GG writers did, it is vomit inducing (so I try to laugh instead of cry

Even as someone who wasn't even watching the show (except for Blair/Dan scenes), that really was for all intents and purposes the narrative that seemed to be playing out for a good while. YANA. I'm inclined to agree about the influence of fan/network pressure.
What really galls me is that I am certain the writers knew what they had written? There are just too many moments in the show where Blair realizes how terrible Chuck is for her for them not to know. This, exactly. The thing is that I can even see how that COULD be part of a love story -- if Blair had been allowed to truly break out of the toxic cycle and leave Chuck behind, if Chuck was put on a grueling emotional journey that involved him taking responsibility for his behavior and resolving to be a better person, blah blah. But the writers were apparently completely

In my head I am still 100% convinced that everything that happened after S2 was just a bad dream. I chose to view it as two entirely different shows because otherwise how the hell could anyone get past that? S4-5 were basically an entirely different character than the one in the early seasons. I don't know. It was all very confusing. I find that my TV Alzheimers helps in situations such as this. All I remember is hot make-outs in the back of limos and totally ill-advised sexual shenanigans. And there my brain will stay

'Great Redemption of Chuck Bass' lol but that's exactly it -- what redemption, even? He was still treating Blair like dirt right up to and including the horrific S5 finale. DOES NOT COMPUTE.
ITA that's it exactly. But the writers were telling us that he was redeeming himself and so clearly it wasn't important for him to actually do so. WRITER'S LOGIC. Or maybe show runners' logic? I don't want to unfairly place blame where it isn't warranted!
I'm back at work again. I swear, 90 hour weeks followed immediately by 60 hour weeks with no weekend should be banned. I WANT A DIFFERENT JOB.
