OOM-but-Not

Meg Ford has her hands full as she comes into Milliways today.

And then, suddenly, she doesn't, as the bottom of her grocery bag splits in dramatic fashion.

She just (barely) manages to catch the bottle of shampoo, and the bread lands at her feet and stays there, but a half dozen oranges promptly go rolling in a half dozen directions.

Bruce is walking across the bar. Mindful of his surroundings as he is, these days, he can tell the orange rolling towards him is going to intersect exactly with where his foot is going to land if he keeps going.

He's holding a unidentifable green drink of some kind, and dressed in a five thousand dollar suit. He'd rather not get squashed orange on his shoes as well. So he walks, pauses, lets the orange roll to the side of his foot...and deftly flicks it up to his hand.

'Is this yours?' he says in Meg's direction, in the cool way he tends towards whenever he's got his 'Bruce Wayne' head on, rather than any other face he may wear. Not unfriendly exactly, but not warm either.

Meg turns, and makes the not unreasonable assumption that the man is asking about the orange and addressing her.

"Yes, thank you," Meg says, coming over to take it from him. "Sorry about that."

He holds it out, and says, 'no problem.'

If this were Gotham, this would be the point he'd walk on. Bruce Wayne has more important things on his mind than picking up oranges, and his head is still firmly on the meeting he just came from.

'You need some help?'

Again, not said with the most grace, but he'll feel like a jerk later if he doesn't offer.

Meg will take the offer in the spirit in which she will give him the credit for having intended.

Which is to say . . .

"Thank you, that'd be lovely."

She offers him her right hand.

"Meg Ford."
