The best non- or small-chain mexican in San Diego is Robertos. Rubios is really good, but it's a larger chain. Roberto's is in Carmel Valley/Del Mar.

I also LOVE Spices (Thai) I actually have been craving it for a week!

Oh! And if you go through Oregon on I-5, Eugene is usually a good stopping point (it's about 5-6 hrs from Seattle) The Glenwood is near the U of O campus (my alma mater) it's really granola-ish and soo good.

I've done the drive from Seattle to San Diego 3 times (but always in a get there quick kinda way) so if you need tips let me know!

Im not sure where we want to stop im thinking carmel, monterey area

cause I want to get to san diego asap then slowly make our way back up
and I dont think John will want to drive 22 hours non stop
