You know, I had a neighbor across the street from me who had a couple of kittens. At one point I watched the littlest kitten chase a lizard right up the small tree in the front yard. He lost it up a branch and then sat down where the branches started and stared at the ground with this sort of vague 'awww crap' look on his face. Somehow I can fully imagine that same expression on yours when you got down there with the kid.
On the other hand, the kid probably felt a lot better when he wasn't stuck down there alone. Seriously though, how the hell did he get down there in the first place?

We don't have alligators here... it's too hot. and dry... like your... nevermind. JK. He fell in. The parents are in the process of sueing the city. *sigh*
