Sell out?

Has Jon Stewart sold out?  I'd like to actually have a conversation on this.  Tonight, I'm watching it right now, Jon Stewart had on his show Pat Buchanan, infamous right wing idealogue.  Pat was on to discuss his new book, "State of Emergency: the third world invasion and conquest of America".  It seemed to me like Jon tried to give Pat a fair ( Read more... )

Hmm, unfortunately I was already asleep by the time the Daily Show came on last night, so I can't comment on this one interview. I personally would have to burn all my clothes and take many baths in strong lye-based soap to get the cooties off of me after spending anytime with Robertson, but maybe Jon's developed some immunity.

The only time I've seen Jon seem to pander has been with really really big movie stars. With most folks he seems honest, slightly snarky, and casual. I'll keep an eye on him, though.

Jon Stewart talked about this in the Crossfire interview where he called Tucker Carlson a dick.

Basically, he's a comedian, not a journalist, and it's not his job to ask the hard hitting questions.

That's exactly what I was about to say.

If someone is looking to Comedy Central for hard hitting questions from news anchors, Jon Stewart is the least of their troubles.

I suppose those are good points, and I suppose I take Jon too seriously. It's just that when I watch Oberman and then Stewart, Stewart's guests are sometimes better, and I expect him to ask good questions. And he does ask good questions from a comedy stand point. Still, when he went on Crossfire, he didn't make too many jokes. He was on there talking about politics and how Carlson and his then host were ruining the country (from what I saw, I hate watching that clip).

So, no Jon in '08 campaign?
