Did you watch the Confidential? They did a bit of a montage to Adele's Hometown Glory and I cried more at that than at the montage in the actual episode. It was just such a poor choice of a mediocre song (and it was SUCH a stereotypical-sounding song for a montage, if that makes any sense) that it just ruined my emotional reaction to the end.
I haven't watched it yet, but that's the plan for tonight! I mostly don't get using a pop song in Doctor Who at all, or why they didn't think Murray's score could do the trick there. Also, YES, definitely a stereotypical montage song, that makes sense. I can't even remember what it sounded like, it left so little an impression, other than to take me out of the moment. Although, Hometown Glory does make me tear up all Pavlovian-like (thank you Cassie Ainsworth and Chris Miles) so I do wonder if it would have made a difference in the episode.
But yes! The Starry Night scene was just so ridiculously beautifully done.
The sky effects were gorgeous! Everything about that scene, from Vincent's impassioned speech to the quiet music to the Doctor and Amy reaching for each other at the same time - just GORGEOUS.
Your icon, ahhh! I was so sure that when Amy and Eleven got back to the museum, everything would be all screwed up because they took Vincent somewhere he shouldn't have gone, but instead they went much sadder, and then the painting for Amy! AHHH!
