A message from yesterday and today

A Dream Deferred

What happens to a dream deferred?

Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?

Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.

Or does it explode?

This is a very nice poem. Incidentally, I was looking Langston Hughes' audio poems collection in the online library website today morning. Quaint, huh? :-)

wow, that's cool!

this poem was presented at yesterday's recital. Then this afternoon, as i was preparing to go out, i picked up a book to see if I wanted to bring it with me. I flipped through the chapters of the book and found that the last chapter is called "A Dream Deferred", and the poem is on the page as well. Very interesting coincidence.
