He's tried to keep a close watch on her ever since he'd noticed her shift in reiatsu. It was subtle at first, but that it was there at all worried him. And he knew that idiot, Kurosaki, wouldn't notice at all. So he decided, only for her safety, that he'd keep his eyes open a bit wider and stick just a little closer to her than he usually did. She hadn't noticed him yet, and he doubted she ever would. She was a bit... Wrapped up in her own thoughts.
The one and only time a hollow had come anywhere near her, he had dispatched it with a single arrow without ever even alerting her to it's presence. That was something he'd have to be more careful of. She wasn't really the type of person built for battle, so it was best to just shield her from it in any variety. Let her worry about the things that mattered to her and not something as trivial as a hollow.

He was like a shadow. He had been following her for so long that she barely even noticed him anymore. It felt nice, having someone keep such a close watch on her. It really was tiring playing Kurosaki-kun’s cheerleader all the time. It was a welcome change to have someone silently cheering for her. Especially if that someone was every girl's vision of a knight in shining armor.
Sometimes she was content with him keeping his distance. Other times she wished he would step out, say something. Even though his presence was more than welcome, it didn't quite hold back the loneliness that crept up on her. It didn't dispel the horrible longing for someone to hold her close. And it didn't make her bed any less cold.
Maybe one night, she would step out, let him know it was okay to walk with her. Maybe one night, she wouldn't be so afraid of his reaction. Maybe, just maybe, one night, she could tell him just how much she has always loved him.
