Who am I anyway? Am I my resume?

I just started applying for jobs today. It was weird.

I really felt like an adult. An adult who blares Justin Timberlake at near ear-splitting volumes.

Honestly? I'm terrified. I mean, due to my immigration debacle, my resume is meager at best. What if no-one wants to hire me? What if this one stupid, flimsy piece of paper called a resume is my ( Read more... )

The best thing to do now is to really take any job that's related to your field, even if it's not your ideal working situation. It's just best to build up your resume and make some cash in the meantime. I know it seems lame to define yourself by a piece of paper but it's more than that really. With those will hopefully come recommendations from REAL people who believe in you! If we went by my resume I'd just be known as a secretary/floral arranger/waitress/bakery cashier/telemarketer/project manager. I'm so much more than all of those things and I really only consider myself one of those things still because it actually is my job title. I don't like it, but there is more to me and the people I work with know it now. It just takes time. You can do it!!

Thank you SO much! Seriously, I really needed that. I'm completely in a tizzy about this whole job thing and the more I think about it, the more I feel like I'm breathing underwater.

You're absolutely right, though. I really should build up my resume and make some cash. The sooner I do that, the sooner we can move out to Los Angeles.

Thanks for the pep talk. I really appreciate it :)

Even though you might not have a legal work history, your resume can be filled with a lot of achievements from college or any thing you think someone might go "hmm, interesting". I know putting that you wrote for "The Future" at UCF would help.

A friend of mine at work is helping me with my resume also gave me a few pointers like putting your resume on a nice stationary with a nice plastic covers (remember the ones we used to use in High school) and to also try to keep it to one page, even if you got to reduce the font size.

Good luck, meng.

Thanks meng! I applied to a company that does work for the D.A.R.E. organization -- how cool would that be? I could totally DARE to keep kids off drugs!

My resume is meager, but I did put down that I'm an award-winning, published writer. That sounds impressive, right?

I miss you and Toni!
