I really admire what J.K. Rowling has done.
It's things like Harry Potter that make me want to be a writer/creator.
I mean, think about it, she's got people all around the world rallying over one story.
Everyone (yes i know this is an exaggeration, but go with me here,) wants to know what happens to Harry Potter, you know?
It brings a sense of community. Fans all around the world can connect with each other...through a story. And that fictional story can lead them to relate over other things, like God, hobbies, political issues...you know? Or, if they are all different in that aspect, they can still find one thing in common. It's SO cool!
I don't even care that soooo many other people like it. In fact, that makes it even better to me, because I know I am a part of something, you know?
And she turned millions of kids on to reading. I know I didn't like reading until I started Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
See, if you can bring the world together...
like with a tv show, a book, or a movie,
where everyone is speculating about what will happen, or talking about theories, or just recounting cool scenes...
Like in school on Thursdays or Fridays when everyone's discussing Lost or Grey's Anatomy
People actually STOP what they're doing to talk to each other about a story...
If you can do that,
And in so doing, make them happy for a little while, take them away, show them beauty in life, in friendship, in scenery or art...
and therefore show them the beauty of God,
That is one of many noble professions.
And that is what I want to do.
"A long, long time ago,
I can still remember
How that music used to make me smile.
And I knew that if I had my chance,
I could make those people dance
And maybe they'd be happy, for a while."
-Don McLean
