"This Be The Verse"

“This Be The Verse,” by Philip Larkin certainly fulfils some aspects of the criteria that make up “great literature”. The theme of the poem is universal in that all parents, everywhere, pass on some part of themselves to their children-- some parts good and some parts bad. I agree with all your commentators that this is a very good "take" on the two questions. I'm glad that you caught Larkin's irony, and, yes, a very observant discussion of "Simple Recipes." Well done!

I agree with your take on the two readings from this week. You have shown that you really thought outside the box when you analyzed the the poem and the story. I like your take on the girl jumping rope and when I re-read it I totally agree with you. You are a great writer and I enjoy reading your posts.
