And like his mind predicts the tone of voice and words just dash any hope he had left. Allen takes a moment to just watch with horror before he hits the communicator with a vigor borne of desperation.]

They have nothing to do with it. [He softens his voice further, like one talking to a frightened bird.] We don't always get to choose when we're given pain or have to endure. But we're not alone no matter how dismal things can seem.

We can choose. We can choose what to inflict and who to inflict it upon and it's beautiful.

[No. He understands pain. He was borne into it, lived it in both body and in attempts to shatter his spirit. It is that pain that hammered him over and over again, back there and in the city.

But he will not give pain out if he doesn't have to. Suffering is not something he visits upon all.]

We can choose not to. Suffering isn't some form of art nor are living people meant to be anyone's canvas. It doesn't make our own pain go away to do these things.

Please, get them away from the edge and let them walk away alive.
