[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]

Name: Maes Hughes.
Age: 29.
Gender: Male.
Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist.
Timeline: Riiight as he's staring down the barrel of Gracia-Envy's gun.
History: The original anime's side.

Character Personality: Meet the married man.

He has a comfortable desk job, a best friend who still shares drinks with him when they cross paths, a beautiful wife who thinks no wrong and a darling, precious, lovely, glorious daughter. He's easy-going, almost always found with a smile and laugh, and he might seem a bit eccentric and flighty, but when it comes down to it, he's the most dedicated person you could find. Always supportive, always looking to help others cheer up (even if he won't outright say that), he's the one with the amazing people skills and charm - when he bothers to use it. Perceptive to a fault, his deeper-than-most understanding of situations and feelings might have made him into being called a rather sensitive guy if he wasn't careful about when he showed it. Nonetheless, he gave off a sense of joy and optimism wherever he went, a down-to-earth sort of hilarity that managed to pick up even the lowest of spirits (usually). He was the ideal husband and friend.

His life wasn't very simple. Therefore, he wasn't that simple.

Hughes had seen a lot, knew the problems and tribulations that came with every action he took. He'd make judgments passed on what he thought was the truth, and sometimes, they didn't always turn out to be what others wanted-- but they would always turn out to be the best course when it came to providing safety. The loyalty was there to the max, you see: and while he wasn't one of those who didn't take care of themselves thanks to it, he was one of those whose ambition was to see someone else's ambition work out. It just helped matters more that they had the same fundamental idea, and in all reality, Hughes' ideas tended to outgrow his capabilities, too.

But there was a definite dislike for the spotlight. He wouldn't be able to deny enjoying the quiet, normal life, even if he was perfectly willing to shove himself into the thick of things - part of the reason he did it was to protect those he cared about, present and future - and so what he did have, he made sure to take care of. Maybe it was because he realized exactly how dangerous drawing attention (in a negative way: drawing attention in a hyperactive, cheerful way was just fine) to himself was was why he kept to the shadows. Whatever the reason, it lent excellently to his abilities of collecting information and worming his way into all the right places, a skill that was already being optimized due to his rather high smarts and sharp eyes. Very, very sharp eyes: it wasn't altogether fair to call him a snoop, since half of what he knows come from conveniently being in the right place at the right time to hear the right thing (or know who to talk to when).

Still, he was laid-back. He was happy to laugh at life, rather than sit about and brood over it. He wasn't afraid to become stern when he knew something was wrong, and that was generally when a person had to watch out, since he probably knew exactly what to say to get you to sit down and listen to him.

Character Abilities: The key point to Hughes is his above-average intelligence and quick thinking; he's practically a master at double-meanings and rooting out information as well as pigs can pry up gardens. It also helps that he's fairly in shape, being skilled in throwing knives and holding on to moving trains. He manages to hide things in the oddest places (thus having an unlimited supply of pictures to show off when needed) and fit into tight, small spots, as well.

Character Weaknesses: Still, at the end of the day, he's a normal human, with all of the problems that come with those normal frail human bodies. He has the tendency to poke his head into the worst of things, too, and snoop just a bit too far into what he shouldn't. Although it's never been a problem, seeing as he always makes sure to take care of the people he's close to, he would probably be relatively easy to blackmail with whom he considered friends and family-- especially family.

[ MEISTER SECTION ]

Why your character should be a Meister: Even if he's the token completely-and-utterly normal human being character, Hughes is in possession of some rather amazing agility and flexibility for someone who works a desk job. He's also already extremely skilled with push knives, having a fighter's reaction time and reflexes. This all adds up to him being rather skilled and useful as a Meister.

[ SOUL INFORMATION ]

Soul Description: Loyal, loving, sharp, supportive, perceptive, humorous.

Soul Appearance: A darker blue orb with lighter blue wisps, complete with white "glasses," a sharp strand of hair and a grinning face.

[ SAMPLES ]

First Person: Yo.

[what's this? a man with an easy smile, holding the lens of the camera above his head - decked out in full military regalia, plus a nice starch bandage stretched around his upper left arm, looking about at ease as was possible in the middle of an empty apartment.]

They said this gadget held an entire network of folks, so a bit of introductions are in order, aren't they? Especially with how the situation is - but those are thoughts for another day, so... Maes Hughes, at your service-- whomever I'm speaking with.

[tap tap at the lens.]

There wouldn't happen to be a way to tell, would there? It could become a bit awkward, thinking you know someone's someone but then finding out they're entirely different. Especially considering those text options. Although I can't find a reason to not use this personal video! Think of the possibilities!

[easy-going smile replaced with a far-too-enthusiastic-and-glowing one.]

For instance, I don't even know who I'm contacting, but you can all see these pictures I have. Hey, yeah - sharing certainly helps with introductions! I'll go first. [suddenly, closing up and in on the lens.] They're of my precious daughter, Elicia! I only have about fifty pictures of her right now, but just look! [no, really, look. they're being zoomed in on by the camera. she's hugging a teddy bear that really is as big as her.] Isn't she just the most adorable thing you've ever seen? Of course she is! She has her mother's eyes, and she's so smart! She's already counting up to one hundred! Can you believe it? She's only three!

[flip flip flip. one looks the same in the other in that they all contain the cutest girl you've ever seen maybe.]

Aah, they grow up so fast... But look! This is when she first learned to open doors...

[on and on and on.]

Meister Ability. Soul Trump - when in grave danger, able to give his Weapon a boost of power.
