I'm sorry that you've had such a terrible parent. I'm in full agreement that there are situations where excuses are only excuses and not understanding. Because sometimes that parent never learned, never became better, and would still throw you under the bus today. The donate your DNA, but beyond that, parent? I think not.

Wow, this is an incredible post, one that resonates so strongly with me right now. I just posted (rather bitterly) on facebook about how "selfish, irresponsible baby boomer parents" should "grow up" and even then the wording seems so weak, and what i mean seems more like the above. I don't even want to get into what the source of this stuff is on my end but suffice it to say I moved to NYC where I had no family from Florida the day I turned 18 ( ... )

I wish i'd had it in me to get farther away. i'm still so strongly tied, by guilt, by want of love, and by that inescapable hope that some day everything will change.

it doesn't change though, despite how hard i try. it's hard to come to terms with that, you know? i'm still a little kid in the mindset of: "if _I_ can just be better then things will be better"

i'm really glad this resonated with you. i don't know a lot of people in a similar situation and it's taken a lot for me to reach out.

i actually started this as a written entry in my journal but i got frustrated with the speed at which i was writing.
