Hello all! End of Semester stress has been showing in the dip in comm activity in recent weeks, so here is a short and snappy meme to go with Mith’s intro post and kick-start some holiday everywriting!
What first impressions do they give off? Do other people find them likeable? Do they think that other people find them likeable? Do they care?

People are generally either intimidated or annoyed by Liza, upon first meeting her. She's prickly, overbearing, and difficult to please; she makes no particular effort to please in return. No one likes her on first meeting her, but she's not particularly interested in being liked--she's interested in being heeded.
What makes her think she's lost face? Has she ever lost face?
She loses face when she admits to needing someone else's approval; she should be self-validating, but she has never in her life been capable of self-validation, and it shames her desperately to let others see that. (It comes out most often when she drinks, this need to be told that she's done something of worth. And she drinks quite a bit ( ... )

It depends on what she's trying to do to you -- as a general rule, she's kinda sweet the first time around? Wholesome in the way your neighborhood church pastor is wholesome, which then develops, variously, into witty/charming/erudite/crude/overwhelming. And then if you're around her enough and perceptive, you realize that the reptile brain is running at about 300 meters/second. At this point, Julien is probably running off into the sunset, and doesn't care.
What makes them think they’ve lost face? Have they ever lost face?
Julien is hyper-hyper-sensitive to slurs and things that might be construed as slurs if you hold them up to the light! Insults roll off; condescension chafes. Julien tends to lose face hard -- any fuck-up is a fuck-up of epic proportion -- and then regain it spectacularly.
How do they handle grief and sorrow? Do they cry in front of others? She channels it. If she was a ( ... )

The first word that comes to mind in just about anyone who's dealt with Alyin is forward. Alyin doesn't just leave an impression, he shakes your moral high ground a little. Alyin comes across as blunt and gregarious and he doesn't take himself too seriously. He says what he thinks. Sometimes it gets him in trouble, especially in Haradh where talking around yourself is a fucking art form. So yeah! If you like the outspoken type, you probably like him from the start. If you think a good man is seen and not heard, you hate him. He doesn't care as much as he probably should.
What makes him think he's lost face? Has he ever lost face? Oh, he loses face. And he apologizes for it once he sees the signs of it. Alyin doesn't do well with overt disapproval. If the person who disapproves of him is someone he meant to impress or someone he cares about, he'll hit the floor and make his apologies. If the ( ... )

Enver surprises people. To civilians, especially in Vrateri, he's disarmingly grounded and personable. Meanwhile diplomats and the assorted international elite have had to revise a lot of their assumptions about him and his father's backwater origins after catching on how intelligent he truly is. (Which shouldn't be a surprise, frankly; said father is a political philosopher, but there you go.) He's engaging, well-spoken and seems to have a good grasp already on how the whole system works, so in popular estimation he's liable to grow into a capable leader. Reactions to this range from "oh hey this guy's pretty legit, fair play" to "shit shit shit he's competent what do we do."
Cares very much if people like him, understandably. And it's a calculated effort, yes, though not insincere on his part. Enver knows he has a lot riding on his shoulders. That doesn't mean he can't genuinely want to be ( ... )

...if he doesn't make it out of the story alive, I am going to be so sad, he'd be the best ruler, wouldn't he. (Oh god on a scale of 1-10 how embarrassing is Hanne in public)

Oh god, uh, 6-7? Hanne is...embarrassingly white, even in a country that was basically the 'lolwhitepeople' of the imperial domain. She doesn't have the best handle on all the historical grievances between various groups, doesn't understand why it's a bad idea to refer to one language as a dialect of another when they're so similar, look, look at the syntax; and coming from a Democracy (well, mostly democratic [kinda]), her political sensibilities leave room for a lot of misunderstandings. And she doesn't mean anything by it, of course, but sometimes Enver's hand kind of miiiigrates up his face and he has to look over both their shoulders to make sure a fistfight isn't about to break out in the vicinity. Perspective is a valuable tool.

Dante is an island fortress with an impenetrable glass dome over it. The most expressive he gets at the beginning of the series is a raised eyebrow whenever Candy says something particularly facepalm-worthy. He's very business-oriented, but without the charisma to draw people to him. The end result is someone who wants to get things done, and quickly--and who typically does, mostly because people don't want to deal with him for any extended amount of time.
What makes them think they’ve lost face? Have they ever lost face? Admitting to emotions and yielding to something. It's part of why he and Candy have A Thing as opposed to a relationship. He's very in-denial and of the opinion that he should self-deprive. A lot of it comes from his Risoria training--he had to train hard to reach his Ascended status, and a lot of that dealt with emotional conditioning and saving face. So he's very ( ... )

...also, I really want to know more about what he and Candy get up to now.

And then next time they meet he's hunting her down.
