Painter and I

Jan 05, 2011 21:20

Finally swapped my old laptop with a new 6GB ram one to fuel the unholy child called Corel Painter, and it seems to run fine after that. Then I went on an experimental coloring fest in which I went through all my old pictures and picked out the ones that aren't completely horrible and seems easy to color, and tried to finish them ( Read more... )

I love your coloring, Evey. <3 The textures you create with all the shading are amazingly realistic.

I'm kind of into your new icons, by the way. that_oneill_guy January 7 2011, 06:04:15 UTC
Glad to hear you finally got Painter to work. It's probably good to force yourself to try new ways of coloring, even though you are full of hate for them.

I remember that Ramza and Alma one, I think. Man, how do you mimic the noseless style so well. Whenever I try to draw like that, I just draw a rhinoceros, and then smoke comes out my face, and I collapse.

That's not the point here, though. The point is, colors. I think it looks good, especially the way the hatching blends into the shading.

Edgar looks familiar too, though maybe not colored? Either way, I like the way that watercolor tool worked out for you. The colors do have a very light and fluid feel to them somehow.

Ironically (or maybe I just have no taste) the colors of Larian's and Irda's hair are maybe my favorite thing on this page. I especially like how it's not just different shades of blond, but also some pinks and greens. Also, CROSSWRAITHS. WHAT IS.

Color scheme for Sidney--GET. What did you color him in? Haha, you actually knitted his top, awesome.

Because seriously, that is probably my most favorite game cover ever. I do admit feeling a bit perplexed by how appealing that noseless style is though, because it makes no sense, especially when you can see the nose sideways.

>Edgar looks familiar too, though maybe not colored?

To be honest, you've probably seen around 90% of my pictures, whereas I post maybe 40% of them. But yeah, I'm pretty sure I've post the Edgar sketch somewhere before.

That's good to hear, because I worried that the colors may be too funky. In any case, it was fun to do.

>Also, CROSSWRAITHS. WHAT IS.

IT IS A LAME PLOT DEVICE WHICH EMERGED AFTER MAYBE THE 6TH OVERHAUL OF THE STORY. A story which, by the way, has an actual name now. I may rant stupid things about it.

WELL GOOD 'CAUSE I AM. that_oneill_guy January 7 2011, 16:33:26 UTC
I'm inclined to agree with you. On both counts. There's just something about the style that, even after all these years, is still so . . . so inexplicably appealing, as you say. That's why I was disappointed to find that FFTA2 is not drawn in the same style. The job designs are okay, I guess, but Luso is a train wreck. (I am rather fond of Frimelda's design, though, and I absolutely prefer Vaan's and Penelo's to their original ones.)

I WOULD ENJOY A CROSSROADS RANT, IF YOU GET THE CHANCE.

Yeah, I agree that oC's style of zoom is a welcome feature. I've even gotten used to the lack of scroll bars, though I'm still not thrilled about it aha.
