. . . fuck the what now? I happen to be re-reading Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea atm, and this . . . this is kind of different from Verne. That's really as far as my brain is allowing me to get.
I would say YES, but also BE CAREFUL. It's by Atlus, so it is basically designed to punish both perfectionism and carelessness. It is fucking brutal unless you come in prepared. And the battle system is such that traditional level grinding is impossible, which means you want to leave all the killing to your main characters, while the optional characters really ought to be leveled by way of their supporting skills whenever possible. Also don't fall into the trap of Overkilling everything because it is plain impossible unless you are 1) willing to reset an hour-long battle because you missed the overkill threshold on one goddamn majin, or 2) Heiwajima Shizuo. Also remember that you only need to capture one of each majin in order to complete the lexicon, so long as you exploit the save system.
Actually, here. Don't even think about starting the game until you have read at least up through "Mercenaries." I did, and ended up having to restart at the beginning up the 2nd stratum, which meant I lost a good three hours or so of playtime. (I
