So back in February, I think, we fell in love with a house (let's call it House A), and it sold.  After it sold, for a while the bear and I were very sad.  We had already started imagining a future in the house, and it was extremely disappointing when we realized that was not to be.

We mourned the loss of our House A until we met our House C. (Actually, we should say that it's more like House F or House G.) So.... maybe you'll do better in the end?

Incidentally, does "sold conditionally" mean that it's under contract? Cause that's far from being a done deal. (Think of it as an engagement, or maybe just a boyfriend/girlfriend situation -- it's still very possible that the couple breaks it off before they turn it before they get to the altar.)

I think it does mean the same thing. It is "conditionally sold, until June 4th, on finance and inspection" our agent says. I know it may still fall through. But our agent agrees that the home seems overpriced. It was bought in 1998 for just over half of what the sellers were originally asking. (And the current owners did not do significant renovations--the last significant renovations were done in the eighties.) The price has come down quite a bit since the house first went on the market, but it is still a very expensive home considering its size and condition. It is cute, though.

well, you know learning might be over-rated. what I've learned from this story is that when House C (a very shabby and not at all nice house) comes into the picture, you will a) buy it and b) love it, because your experiences with House A and B have destroyed all of your standards and expectations...
