The star above the "i" and the horseshoe mouth are so clever that I think they'd be more noticable without the extra stars. But they look fine.

I agree that the extra stars add nothing. When I was sketching it with a pencil, it looked unfinished without something forming a kind of border effect. So that's why I added the stars. But then once I painted them, I saw that they were too busy. I'm unhappy with them, but I don't think there's a good way to cover them up, since the blue is so bright and the yellow so light. Oh, well. I suspect I'm mostly just being a perfectionist. Otherwise, I'm very pleased with the way it turned out. It'll be a lesson for when I do the painting for his room. Start simple, because I can always add things later.
