Hrm. I'd say sit on it for a few days and come back to it with the intention of writing another scene, but you don't have time for that. If it's a question between 1500 words of stupid and a 78500-word polished novel, I'd just leave it at that. If they really like it and want to publish it, they'll either accept it or say "hey, why don't you expand on ___ a bit more to make it longer?"
yeah. i thought about sitting on it...but i'm worried if i wait too long, the publisher will close to unsolicited manuscripts. and that would suck. as it was, this time through it i hadn't read it in several months, so i caught a lot of things, and added some stuff. i'm afraid if i try to force the last 1500 words that it will be just crappy fluff.
and on an amusing note, if i use their estimated way of counting, i have 83,000 words, as opposed to word's word count, which gives me 78,500. so i wonder if i should just give them an "estimated word count of 81,000" or something, and go with that.
