Oh man. Having read Memoirs once on my own, once for my first-year seminar, and another few times for when I was writing a lesson plan to teach it, I can go on for way too long about that book.

I kind of want to see the movie just to see how they handle it, but I can't bring myself to rent it because I'm sure I'll be rolling my eyes the entire time. I can't imagine that it will be any better than the book, which I am not crazy about.

not having finished much of the book yet, i can tell you that at least from a purely entertainment factor, the movie was very good. can't tell you anything about its accuracy, but it was a good movie...

I think that's how I felt about Memoirs when I read it the first time. I thought "oh, I have no idea how correct this is, but it's really entertaining." Then I got to the last third or quarter of the book and wanted to throw it away (I think you'll know the moment I'm talking about), but still I had a pretty good impression of it.

Then, of course, I go to college and spend a few weeks in my FYS in intense criticism of the book and of Arthur Golden, and then do it all over again a few years later. I will say that sometimes a critical reading can destroy all the joy you have for something.
