We journey boldly into shining skies
To learn, to build, to seek out other worlds
As seven angels watch with loving eyes,
And one flag more in new frontiers unfurls.
Three angels more, though longer gone,
Extend their hands to shelter those below
Whose dreams and courage ever spur them on
To follow where the angels sought to go.
Alas! Though angels long to keep us well
They cannot always perfect guard maintain
And so again rings forth a somber knell
As we relearn that daring can bring pain.
In time, Earth's surly bonds we'll slip again
And angels seventeen will keep us then.
