It's time for Pagans and fair-minded peoples of all faiths to stand up and shout enough is enough to the radical, looney goon (pun intended,) right wing nutjob bible thumpers that are trying to catapult our nation back into the Dark Ages ( Read more... )

Too true my friend chevybythelevy May 16 2005, 21:08:10 UTC
For to long have we been instructed into living a certain way as 'higher' officials see fit.
Indeed if this was so we would be ever stuck in the perpetual age we live in now. Those who see it the way will live in a world or a 'utopia as they see it' were life itself will become so dull everyone will have chosen to commit suicide. No new ideas would form.
The way I see it if everyone was permitted to live how they want to then less arguments would occur. Now if only we could exterminate those who are to radical......... (I.E. Radical racist, sexist, or homophobic bitches)

(forgive the random reply, bored at work and was curious)

It's nice to think that we could all have the freedom to do as we wish, but aren't we all tied together? I mean, everyone's actions affect someone else, at what point does "discomfort" and "dislike" become "harm"? Then, too, at what point do we need to stop worrying so much about individuality and focus more on how we have to come together as a society? Sometimes I wonder if Eastern cultures don't have it closer to correct with less emphasis on the individual and more emphasis on families and groups. To my shame, I am sadly ignorant of most of the finer points of that philosophy, but at a broad brushstroke it seems to have some definite appeal over the "everyone for himself" one we seem so desperate to hold onto.

Anywho, I'll cut that off there before that gets into too much of a rant ;)

And if the comment isn't welcome, my apologies :)

Yeah, you're making sense, but you're also seeing it from your point of view (which, imo, is sensible, but also different from the opposing one). I think the core difference in the argument is that you're saying the world is not black and white, and I think the other side would say it is exactly that. There is a Right, there is a Wrong (caps intended to imply that this "right" and "wrong" are absolute). You must believe a certain way, or you will burn in Hell. In that light, some feel it is there obligation to make sure that everyone lives that way, not only so that they will find salvation, but also so those who currently believe that way will not be tempted to stray from the path ( ... )

And the whole thing is a prime example of what we nerds like to call a "paradox".
