That piece by Kelby is just bizarre. From her article, verbatim, with no excisions:

That's rather disappointing. I also find it sort of strange that people who move in those professional circles weren't already aware of Walcott's reputation. I mean, I knew about it, and I hardly move in anything approaching literary circles.
