The wireless connecion did not have a password so was accessible from everyone in the area. Might this have anythng to do with it?
Not impossible but quite, quite unlikely.. Routers can get temperamenal, I used to have one that once in a while you had to keep resetting as it would just not connect, then after resetting it would be ok.. until next time...
Whether you had a password in the router or not, you should have the firewall in it turned on and a password in the computer, esp. if it is a Windows machine.
Have you tried accessing the settings in the router from the computer? It normally is done through a web browser, they often have an address like 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. This might give you some clues (or might give me some clues...)
Your neighbours also have wifi. Maybe on of them wanted to pull a joke on you and changed the configurations on your wifi router?
Go to Start, run, type in "CMD" Press enter. A prompt box will appear. Type "IPconfig" and look at the default gateway's ip. Use this IP in a browser like http://THE IP HERE.
If that doesn't work.. Reset the router. There must be a reset button it the unit.
If that doesn't work.. Wait for 2 weeks until this very handsome and sporty guy comes to your place. He has the skill to fix it for you. :P
