I read somewhere that Dan Harmon once stated that Chang will never be a part of the study group, and Ken Jeong also once said that it wouldn't be a good idea to let Chang into the group.
Of course Jeff wasn't running to Annie. I think nobody expected him to run to Annie - that's why I actually would have loved it if they had played that trope straight.
I thought Fairly Legal wasn't all that bad, but that is probably mostly because I really like Sarah Shahi very much. The pilot felt like it was 2 hours long though. And I too thought the one interesting thing about the show was the relationship between Kate and her stepmother.

Sarah Shahi is awesome and she managed to play Kate totally different from how she played Dani Reese. The problem is, I loved Dani from the beginning while Kate mostly got on my nerves.
