We are so sorry this took so long! Combination of RL, writer's block, and the new season of House all played a bit part in the delay.

All Good Things Must Come to an End The plane landed and the dim lights were brightened as the passengers groped for their cell phones to let their loved ones know they had landed. Alan opened his eyes and smiled; the one person he would call was here next to him. "Welcome home," he mumbled, without really realizing the implications of what he had said.
Robert sat up straight and stopped, mid stretch. He looked at Alan with a slightly confused look on his face, not sure if he heard correctly. "What?"
Alan rolled his neck and stretched out his arms before scrubbing his hands through his hair. "Welcome to London," he amended, still trying to wake from his light doze.
Robert smiled. "In some ways I am happy to be back here, but Portugal was just wonderful. I don't think I have actually relaxed like that in years."
Alan let his hand graze Robert's thigh in recognition. "I'm glad, really I am, that we got to share that together. I already miss the sun. Look at this bloody awful weather."
They peered out the small window. The sun was non-existent and a steady rain was almost cascading down around them creating a veil of water.
"Tube?" Robert asked, not sure what Alan had in mind for getting home.
"No bloody way I am trudging through the rain with all our cases. Cab... no question."
Robert smiled and stood as the plane finally came to a stop and the passengers closed up their phones and moved on to trying to find the fastest way off the plane. He waited for the people in front to enter the exit row and he followed right behind, feeling Alan stand and follow him out.
Alan resisted grabbing Robert's ass, but he had to admit it was pretty tempting. All he wanted to do was go home and get naked before falling into bed with Robert and sleeping for the next 12 hours. As he exited the plane, he shivered. It was really cold...maybe he needed to amend his plan to include flannel jammies for him and Robert.
Alan walked ahead a few steps, distancing himself from Robert without even thinking about it. The paps hung out at the airport most mornings, and the last thing either of them needed was to be photographed looking familiar with each other. They had never discussed it, but it went without saying that they were keeping this quiet. The last thing their fragile relationship needed was the glare of the paps, watching their every move and documenting it all. They both agreed that living their life, for them and no one else, was all that really mattered. No one else's opinions or twisted view of what they had mattered at all. They wanted to live their own life and not one in the glare of a spotlight.
Alan looked ahead and saw their luggage on the conveyor belt. After a quick trip through customs, both in separate lines, he noticed the flash of a bulb ahead of him. He looked up and was sure to be wearing a scowl; It was too fucking early to be up, much less be photographed. He worked his way through customs and, dragging his luggage behind him, he tried to see where Robert was.
The US line was much longer then the line for UK citizens. And Alan found he had made it through his own line quickly. It looked like Robert would have at least thirty minutes till he made it through. Alan needed to find a way to waste some time without looking like he was wasting time. He looked back over his shoulder to see if he could get a glimpse of Robert and catch his eye. He heard the distinct sound of a shutter close and abandoned his search, deciding not to stay any longer in that area.
Alan ducked into a bathroom and sat inside a stall for a few seconds before opening his phone and giving Robert a quick call. Voice mail picked up and Alan quickly explained the paparazzi that were stalking the airport and his plan to get them to the cab unnoticed. Alan hung up and waited for a few minutes before proceeding to Starbucks for a cup of coffee. He sat watching every one arriving and when he saw Robert, he tossed his cup of unfinished coffee and made his way to walk a bit in front of him, turning to leave the terminal. He made his way to the cab station and, as the cabbie opened the boot, Robert arrived.
Both cases were put in the trunk and Alan followed Robert into the back seat. Alan gave his address to the driver and they sat back, the tension of the arrival on both their faces. Alan's eyes started to droop as the adrenaline from the getaway and the cab lulled him to sleep as they wound through the city. Robert kept his eye on the driver and the route he was using. Nothing looked familiar and he almost woke Alan a few times to verify they were heading in the right direction. Finally it all started to look familiar and Robert started to relax.
The driver stopped in front of Alan's flat and Robert shook Alan awake before paying for the cab. They heard the familiar 'pop' of the boot and both slid out of opposite sides and to get their cases before the cabbie sped off. They walked to the front door, both feeling the effects of the cool weather and the lack of sleep. They both headed wordlessly into the flat and to the bedroom.
Alan handed Robert some night clothes with a yawn, and then went into the bathroom. He was stopped mid stride and received a warm welcome home kiss from Robert. "Shower?" Alan asked him.
A knowing grin spread across Robert's face. "Back to a small shower, remember? I'll go next. Tea?"
Alan gave Robert a quick return kiss and rolled his eyes. "Yes, love." He walked towards the shower, looking forward to the hot water and feeling clean after the flight.
Robert reacquainted himself with Alan's home; filling the kettle with water and starting it, getting out tea and a few crackers. They really needed to go shopping, but that could wait till after a nap. He mentally constructed a list and looked for a piece of paper to make a list. The tea kettle started to whistle and it brought Robert back to the kitchen. He poured the water, taking the cups into the bedroom. He walked back to get the crackers.
Alan took a quick shower, just enough to wash off the flight. He looked down and was surprised how tan and fit he looked, the fortnight away had done him well physically and emotionally. He switched off the water and stepped out. He was greeted with Robert and a cup of tea. "Thanks, this is perfect," he said after taking a sip.
Robert leaned in for a kiss, then took the towel from Alan's hand and started to dry his hair. Then gently rubbed the towel across Alan's shoulders and ran it down his arms and back. Leaning in, Robert kissed away the last few droplets of water clinging to Alan's shoulders from a neat row of curls. "I will be right back." Robert draped the towel over Alan's shoulder and headed into the shower.
Alan slipped into some flannel trousers and a tee shirt, picked up his book, and climbed into bed, propping himself up and switching on the lamp. He sat back, opening his book and immediately relaxed more, still warm from the shower. He took a sip of the hot tea and closed his eyes. He was happy, right now, right here. As much as he loved the break away, this is where he felt most at home. That and listening to the shower, knowing that Robert would walk out soon all scrubbed clean. Alan sunk down a little more and set down the cup of warm liquid, least he fall asleep and scald himself. He tried to read some of the book, but could not focus. His mind kept wandering, fantasizing about Robert moving in. With no need to fly back to an acting commitment. A real life together, and in some of his wilder fantasies they actually could go to premieres together and no one would care.
When Robert exited the shower 10 minutes later, he found Alan already asleep, book splayed next to him on the covers. He put the book down on the nightstand and set his glasses on top of it. Then he leaned over to give Alan a soft kiss on the lips and, as he turned off the lamp, he wondered what Alan was smiling about.
