Of Cut Curls and Lonely Evenings

Robert sat down at his desk, leaning back to stretch out the kinks in his spine. He had jut spend most of the morning and afternoon doing read-throughs of the first two scripts with the rest of the cast. His eyes were burning from all the concentrated reading and from the stuffy stale air of room they were in. He stretched again and scratched his stomach. Then he reached out to shuffle underneath some papers to look for his journal. He was long overdue for an update. He found his favorite pen from the pullout drawer, thought for a minute, and began to write...

House season 5 is underway. Read and discussed the first two scripts, went out for a group lunch that I am still stuffed from, then went back and read them all over again. The scripts looked good, and I wonder how the writers are going to push things this season.

Hugh and Lisa mobbed me when I was waking up to a coffee in the break room. They wanted to know all the juicy details--well, Hugh more than Lisa--between Alan and I. Naturally I didn’t give them many, but I had to mention Portugal. Lisa’s jealousy was worth it. I need to watch her closely the next time Alan visits.

Here, Robert paused and tapped his pen to his lips, smiling as he remembered Lisa practically drooling, half eaten bagel forgotten in her hand. Then he remembered the time that he had spent with Alan there: The beaches, the pool, the shower...

Robert shifted in his chair, schooling his mind back to a more pressing matter that had been nagging for weeks now. Alan. It was always about Alan. Hesitantly, Robert began to write again...

I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about Alan. He is never far from my thoughts, and my thoughts of him are always stronger when we are apart. And the latest drama on the horizon is that he will be meeting my parents for Thanksgiving. Mom is still in full denial mode, and Dad was shocked when I told him, but I think he took it well. I still need to tell my brother. As for my cousins and extended family, I don’t know. Maybe Mom won’t even invite them...fewer witnesses and people to tell. I might not even need to tell them....it isn’t like I am going to be all over Alan, or he me, when we are over there. I just want that to all go well, is that too much to ask? Over four months away and my palms are already sweating just thinking about it.

Robert set his pen down and stood. He headed into the kitchen and rummaged in the refrigerator before settling on a beer. He slowly sipped from it as he slowly made his way back to his desk. It was a long minute before he set it down on a tissue and started to write again.

Alan will be joining me sometime around the beginning of November. I would love to do something special with him, but I have been warned that there might be some Wilson-heavy scripts later. You know how some people say script writers are evil? They are right. They all know how much I enjoy my free time, and the way he told me made me concerned. He was beaming! At least Alan will be happy. He has been watching all the episodes and has downloaded all the Wilson compilation scenes on Youtube. I do wish he would stop. Next thing I know, and he will be joining in Wilson communities on Livejournal or something.

Smiling, Robert stood. It was time to take a shower and wash away the day and to get into something comfortable for an evening of lounging and reading. He left the journal lying on his desk, like an open and unfinished book. He would add to it later.
