It’s a Wrap!

Robert paced. Back and forth, not straying too far from his phone. Alan had called him a few minutes ago to say that they were leaving the airport. With traffic, it would take him a good forty five minutes to get to the apartment, but Robert was too full of nervous energy to keep still. When the phone rang 40 minutes later, he almost tripped over his feet to turn around and grab it. "Hello?"

"Davies, party of two."

Robert laughed. "See you in a minute." He buzzed Alan and Traci into the building. He hesitated for one second before going to his door and opening it, stepping out only far enough so he could watch the elevator.

When Alan emerged and looked right at him, grinning, Robert just shook his head, shrugged, and grinned back. Both travelers had their arms weighted down with suitcases, Traci trailing right behind her brother. She gave Robert a tired smile and a head nod that had to substitute as a wave until her hands were free.

Robert stepped out of the way to allow them passage. He closed the door and turned, ready to pull Alan into a discrete hug, but instead found himself pulled into a bruising kiss.

Traci shuffled her feet and felt her face color. She averted her eyes and let them take in the simple decor. She looked around the small tidy apartment and noticed it did not have as many knick knacks as Alan's flat, but it was very neat and well put together. She craned her head to peer down the small hallway to see the doors to the bedrooms and noticed the swinging door that must lead to the kitchen. She carried her bags in and shrugged off her coat, laying it on the back of a chair.

Alan pulled back from Robert, breathless and grinning. "Happy day before Christmas Eve."

Robert stared at Alan's lips, licking his own, then remembered Traci. He cleared his throat and sidestepped around Alan. "Did you two have a nice flight?" He tried to keep his voice from cracking.

"Oi, well I have to thank me brother for getting us first class. The flight was absolutely stuffed with people, but we had plenty of room. And the seats even reclined," she added happily.

Robert smiled and leaned over, giving Traci a hug and quick kiss on her cheek. "I'm happy you made it sanely. It's good to see you again." Robert bent down and picked up her suitcase and made his way to the guest room. Alan took his own bags and followed Robert.

Traci trailed along getting a further sense of the small efficient apartment. She turned and entered the guest room after Robert. It was barely large enough to accommodate all three of them. The bed looked comfortable, and that was all that mattered. "Perfect."

"Sorry; it's a bit small." Robert looked around and avoided eye contact with Traci.

"It is fine. But now it is time for me to unpack. Shoo. Go get reacquainted." She pushed them both out of the room and closed the door. She heard Robert call to her that dinner would be in about an hour. She wasn't sure if she was more hungry or tired at the moment. She ignored her bags and went to sit on the bed and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath to relax. Tired. Definitely more tired. She opened her eyes when she heard Robert's voice calling to Alan:

"But you left your suitcase..." His voice was suddenly muffled, and it didn't take any guess work to know the reason. She closed her eyes again, smiling, and laid back on the bed. This was going to be a fun stay.
