Previous story:
Cocoa and Conversations Traci made herself seem busy as the guys said their goodbyes. She stooped to check her baggage, but when she looked over at them, she might as well not have been in the room. They kissed slowly, bodies pressed together and hands gripping fabric, and her heart ached. She hoped that one day she would find true love like her brother had.
She glanced at her watch, then back at the embrace and whispered conversation. "Alan, the cab," she said quietly, regretting to see the spell that had surrounded them broken.
"I'll call when we touch in." Alan gave Robert one last kiss before Robert took a deep breath and sidestepped away from the door he had been leaning against.
"Hope you had a good time," Robert smiled and wrapped his arms around Traci, squeezing her gently.
"Smashing time. I can see why you like this city." She pecked his cheek, then picked up her bags.
Traci was first out the door. She shivered and turned up her collar as she waited for Alan to step out on the porch. The door softly clicked closed behind him and they hurried to their cab.
They rode a few minutes in silence, then Traci reached out and gripped his hand, getting him to look at her and smile wistfully.
"Enjoy yourself?"
She nodded. "I would love to come back some time."
"Me, too," Alan said sadly, sounding like he missed his better half already.
"Okay, spill. What's on your mind?"
"I...want to ask him to move in with me."
Traci's eyes widened. "Alan! That's...overdue!"
Alan paused and looked at her, gently tapping her arm. "But I don't think he will want to give this place up. You've seen how much he likes this city."
"I've also seen how much he likes you."
Alan was silent. "I don't want to fuck it up. But I don't want to spend the rest of me life hesitating about it."
"If you need any help..."
"Thanks, Trace." He leaned his head back against the seat and closed his eyes. "Going to try to sleep on the plane." He yawned and blinked open his eyes, rolling his head to the side to look at his sister.
"When are you going to ask him?"
He pursed his lips, thinking. "When he visits. If I can get me nerves under control."
"Nerves? You?"
"A bundle," he admitted.
"He flew half way 'cross the world for you. Just you remember that."
Alan let out a shaky sigh. "Well, I have about three months to get meself under control."
"And counting." She squeezed his hand.
"And counting."
