I've been jumping between working on my mood theme to working on the MASH fic.
So, as a motivator for the, uh (mind dies) second one :P I decided to post part one :D *wonders if anyone knows what I am talking about*
Okay, this is a sequel to Goodbye Isn't For Ever, and you can find it here:
http://www.geocities.com/mymash33/Goodbye_Isnt_Forever1.html
I do suggest you at least skim it to know generally what is going on here.

Part of this had been posted a bit ago, but I have added quite a lot to it, so enjoy :D

(Lyrics used so far are below. If I ever finish this, I can use the rest of them :D)

The Last Goodbye

This is our last goodbye
I hate to see the love between us die
But it’s over
Just hear this and then I’ll go
You gave me more to live for
More than you’ll ever know

Kiss me, please kiss me
But kiss me out of desire, babe, and not consolation
You know it makes me so angry ‘cause I know that in time
I’ll only make you cry, this is our last goodbye

This is our last embrace
Must I dream and always see your face...
Why can’t we overcome this wall
Well, maybe it’s just because I didn’t know you at all

Did you say no this can’t happen to me?
And did you rush to the phone to call
Was there a voice unkind, in the back of your mind
Saying maybe you don’t know him at all...

Maybe you don’t know him at all...

PART 1

BJ was feeding Erin. Peg looked on, watching her stubborn family, both with oatmeal on their faces. The doorbell rang and she walked to the door, glancing over her shoulder.

The man she found at the door was red-eyed and his clothes were rumpled and looked like they had been slept in. A couple days worth of stubble added to his ragged appearance. He suddenly tipped forward and Peg screeched for her husband as she caught the stranger before he fell across the threshold.

BJ ran to his Peg’s side and helped pull the man off of her. The familiar man. “New meaning to the term ‘drop by,’ Hawkeye. You okay, Peg?”

“So this is Hawkeye. I thought he chased women, not fell on them,” she joked, recovering from the scare of her life with ease.

“Formal introductions later.” He picked up his friend and went to deposit him on the couch, while Peg rushed to the angry Erin who was throwing a fit as well as her oatmeal.

BJ patted Hawkeye on the face and got a moan for an answer and his hand swatted away. He wasn’t drunk, and that was both a relief and a worry. It took some more coaxing before Hawk finally cracked open his eyes. “Beej?”

BJ sighed his relief. “Hawk, what happened?”

“Everything,” he whispered. “I ran away from home.”

He had to lean in to catch the soft words. “When?”

“What day is it?”

“Friday.”

“Tuesday.”

“Have you eaten?”

“Can’t remember.”

BJ winced. He wanted to scold Hawkeye, but figured that that was the last thing he needed. “We just finished feeding Erin. There is some leftover oatmeal...”

“I travel across the whole US of A and you offer me leftover oatmeal?” He closed his eyes and tried not to succumb to the darkness that lurked there. “Thirsty.”

“We have fresh orange juice.”

Hawkeye nodded, eyes still closed.

Erin, the 3 year old terror, had been set loose while Peg cleaned oatmeal from the floor. She stood when BJ entered the kitchen. “Is he alright?”

“Hopefully he will be now. He doesn’t remember eating for the past several days, and I don’t think he has.”

“What happened? Did something happen while you were there visiting him?”

“Long story,” was all he said as he poured the juice for his friend. He found him sitting up and deeply involved in a staring contest with Erin.

He looked up at BJ and Erin squealed. “You just made me lose to a pip-squeak!” he exclaimed, accepting the glass and taking several slow sips.

“Feel better?”

Hawkeye nodded. He looked at the glass, and tilted it, swirling around the remaining liquid. “Beej, have I made a mistake?”

“Several, but I doubt that we share the same opinion on what your mistakes were.”

“Are-what my mistakes are.”

BJ warned Hawkeye to keep his voice low with a quick glance at the kitchen. “It’s not a mistake to love someone, Hawk. Does your dad know where you are?”

“Well, he knows that I am not in Crabapple Cove.”

“You need to let him know where you are; that you are alright.”

“He’s probably glad that I am gone. I don’t want to spoil it for him. Telling him that I am here.”

Peg slowly entered the room. “Am I interrupting?”

“Not at all! Now is the time for formal introductions! Hawkeye, this is Peg, the gorgeous lady who broke your fall. Peg, this is Hawkeye. Falling on people is how he shows people he likes them.”

Hawkeye snorted, but did look somewhat embarrassed as Peg leaned over to shake his hand. “I apologize, Mrs. Hunnicutt. Beauty makes me lightheaded.” He flashed her a nurse-winning smile.

“You can call me Peg, and flattery will get you everywhere!”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

BJ stepped between them, looking down at Hawkeye. “Hey, she is spoken for, as you should know!” He looked at his watch. “I need to head to the hospital for a bit. Are you two going to be fine?”

Hawkeye nodded and leaned back against the couch.

BJ was worried about the twinkle in Peg’s eyes and hoped that his friend would survive until he returned. He pulled his wife aside. “Can you make sure he eats something?” he whispered. “Even if you have to tie him up to Erin’s old high-chair…”

Peg followed BJ to the door and they kissed goodbye.

“Beej, what about---”

“Goodbye, Hawkeye,” BJ interrupted Hawkeye’s request for a goodbye kiss of his own, then made a hasty retreat.
