Wow, I'm already writing my first eulogy of the season after 10 days of playoff hockey. So strange given how all the games have gone in this year's quarterfinals, but hey, things happen. So, without more of me rambling,
My 1st eulogy of the year goes to the Detroit Red Wings, who were defeated in 5 games by the Nashville Predators in Nashville. For me, it's strange when Detroit loses because whenever you think of consistency and winning, literally the 1st team you think of is the Red Wings. They're a team that's made the playoffs for 21 consecutive years, which is a record in North American sports and yet, they were just human in the playoffs, suffering their earliest exit in quite a few years (probably since before their last Cup in 2008). Either way, Detroit, you remain one of the best teams in the NHL with world class talent that garners respect for all the right reasons. While the Nick Lidstrom's future is murky as he decides whether or not he wants to come back to play season #22 at age 42, you're still a team with talent that make other teams jealous at just the mere thought of being able to throw out Datsyuk and Zetterberg as you need them. Better luck next year Detroit.
As for Nashville, they become the 1st team to advance to the 2nd round of the playoffs and they'll have at least a few good days off before they find out who their next opponent is and when they'll play their next round.
In playoff-related news, a Taiwanese video was put up yesterday (or something like that) that depicts the violent environment that this year's playoffs have been played in. It's in Mandarin but it's subtitled really well (actually reflects what they're actually saying) and it's really quite funny. But it's also true. Has there really been too much violence in this year's playoffs and has it become a bit of a turning OFF point for some viewers despite the fact that statistics are showing better than ever viewership ratings?
