The phrase I've seen most often for the third kind is "chosen family", those people who are sort of the immediate and local people you spend your time with, bicker, make up, help out and share special occasions with :) Who then tend to spread out over time to form a larger distributed group of people who are in the "really really close friends" category

I don't know if I have a 'really really close friends' category, I think I'm too private. Plus that's taking assmptions with how things flow the other way.
I tend to have 'those I care more about / take up more time of my think space'
