I live on the East coast. I'm 5 minutes to the beach, and hour to NYC, and 10 minutes from my job. I own my home. My family is 10 minutes away and I'm surrounded by friends - some of which I've known since kindergarten ( Read more... )

Interesting times indeed. It's hard to argue with the situation you've got there- it's lovely and enviable in many respects. As I'm sure you know, you'd be quite welcome here in California. Good luck with whatever you guys end up deciding to do.

Having just made the move last December....and leaving my house on the coast.....I can attest to the challenges, but it's not all bad.

If you do decide to move out, come on up to Portland sometime.....it's a great place.

If you didn't own a house, I'm sure all of this would be much easier. Unfortunately you do own a house, in a great location, and I can see why you wouldn't want to move. What a tough decision.

I'd be happy to move to California, but not on my current salary, of course. It would be very difficult to find a home like yours, there, even with the market downturn.

Much luck to you about getting a good job in your own area.
