I post here today to mourn the loss of traditional radio. Up until two days ago, there was a local station that I listed to with some frequency. They played a nice mix of rock/alternative. Mostly current, but they'd throw in a bunch of stuff from the 80's and 90's - like The Smiths. The DJ's usually had some entertaining or witty banter and ( Read more... )

That's very weird. It was just Saturday that a customer came in and had me hunt down a song that he had just heard on the radio, and I had to go to the 106.3 site to find out that it was "Scream" by Chris Cornell.

And he gave me a $10 tip.

I have to admit that I haven't really listened to them since they became G-Rock. My glory days were the time of Matt Pinfield/Michelle Amabile/Bart Cross-Tierney/Rob Acampora (even though I hated with with everything I had in me).

I hate that. There's no such thing as variety on local radio. There's only three or four formats in any given market - Urban, Hits (includes modern rock), Country (In Texas at least) and Oldies, and even with that they still screw them up.

I picked up satellite radio and never looked back. Sirius isn't perfect, but there's always something on. Now we just have to hope they stay solvent!

Otherwise, look at online stations or look to pick up a Slacker Player (like Pandora or Last.fm, but with a portable player). Leave Clear Channel and CBS radio in the dust.
