NNnnn Y C!

Was cold! Yuck on cold. There's like, 2-3 inches of snow on the ground and a balmy 16 degrees.

Anyway! We went to see Spamalot, Wicked, Equus and the Lion King. Spamalot was tres fabulous, I'm really glad I went. I'd been feeling kind of like this about Monty Python in general, so while I wasn't exactly reluctant to see Spamalot, it isn't the top ( Read more... )

Whee, that sounds like how I'd feel about all of them!

I love watching the Monty Python actors in something else, like the Muppet Caper or something... the lines aren't well known and therefore not REPEATED TO DEATH, and it's actually hilarious to watch.

I loved the book of Wicked, although I did wonder at some of the random gruesomeness. Because, truly, OZ IS CREEPY ENOUGH. I read almost all of them (that I could get my hands on, at least) and it's creepy! Return to Oz is an excellent, book-themed example!

I enjoyed the themes of alienation in the book; I've only had the musical score, but it does seem a bit buddy-buddy. I gave you the Hannah Fury song cycle, didn't I? I like that a bit more because it captures more of the sense of being abandoned by one's friends and alone.

I honestly haven't been able to finish Son of a Witch yet. It's waaaaaay not-really-remotedly-based-on-Oz at this point ( ... )

Whenever my friend Sharon gets here to pick up her guinea pig I'm going to ask if I can start going through her Oz books. She's the one whose sister found the entire series in hardback for like $5 at a yard sale. Whee series!

I liked The Wizard and I song a little better after seeing her interactions with Nessa and her father prior, for example. I think I mentioned, in the book it goes from being "oh ha, this might be silly, Elphaba and Galinda roomies at college!" to darker, whereas the musical decides to keep that theme instead.
Aww, although I'm sorry to hear Son of a Witch isn't so good, I'm glad you told me - it is now in the 'see if the library has it' category.

I'm uploading some photos right now, I finally have the energy to do it :P
I always cry when watching Lion King, certain scenes just bring on the waterworks. Same with the show, Circle of Life really moves me and the stampede scene ;_;
Wait, there was an evolution exhibit? I didn't see that on the map, I would've dragged my carcass to it :P

i so want to see the lion king. it looks so cool, and it's one of those shows that i bet looks even cooler from the cheaper seats in the mezzanine than up close in the orchestra section.

We were like, second row second so really close, which was neat for different reasons! But witherwings7 had seen from mezzanine seating and said it all balances out.

Seeing it from close up is pretty cool but like you said, it's really cool from the Mezz. You miss a little being so up close but in Mezz you can see everything.
