Catching up: recently consumed media

  • Anna Karenina - This novel was magnificent. I loved how Tolstoy manages to get inside everybody's head and show how they analyze every little phrase and every little gesture and every little situation they're in, just like actual people do. Anna's tragic story was well told, and Levin's spiritual transformation seemed to be what 50% of the people ( Read more... )

Saw it with Michele and my sister and her husband this weekend. My initial reaction was pure hatred. I was honestly sorry that I paid to see that movie. Here's the kicker: I don't know why I felt that way.

I like Jim Carrey - mostly.
I like Charlie Kaufman - mostly.
I like the idea behind the story.
I liked the pacing - mostly.

Having had a day or two to think about it, I now see this movie as a proof for a theorem. The theorem is:

"Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all." After you get all the way through the movie, that line has pretty much been proven.

I'm still not sure why I disliked the movie so much. Weird.
